brandsfashion - Brands Fashion: Green Factory 2.0 inauguratedD – After Brands Fashion, Buchholz, celebrated opening the first Green Factory in Tiruppur, in Southern India together with its long-term textile partner, Sage Apparels, in 2020, the two partners have announced a further highlight. The newly constructed Green Factory 2.0 has been officially opened and put into operation.

The second factory is also located in Tiruppur and disposes of twelve sewing lines for high-quality polo shirts, sweatshirts and T-shirts as well as for many other items. Furthermore, the factory is certified according to the Leed Platinum Building Standard, the highest certification level for ecological construction, and strives to achieve the observation of the net zero approach, which entails minimising or improving all activities regarding the energy and water consumption, waste production and carbon emissions or compensating for any remaining effects.

The factory was built from recycled materials and designed with a particular focus on the needs of the employees. According to company information, thanks to the 250 KW solar plant on the roof approx. 1,030 tons of CO2 emissions will be saved a year. Double-glazed skylights provide the work area with natural sunlight so that no additional interior lighting is necessary. Rainwater is efficiently collected in a 500,000 litre tank, filtered and implemented for various purposes within the factory. Through the modern planning, treatment and reusage of waste water, 50 percent of the overall water consumption is to be saved long-term. Alongside attention being paid to environmental protection, the focus also lies on the factory workers. Accompanied by the Fairtrade textile standard, the rights of the employees are strengthened by effective workers’ committees and living wages are gradually being introduced.

It is Brands Fashion’s aim to manufacture first-class, durable products under the best fair, social and ecological conditions, which are as far as possible reused in a resource-saving manner following the circular economy principle after the first life cycle phase. The Managing Director of Brands Fashion, Mathias Diestelmann, summed it up as follows: “It is our will and passion that unites us with our partners, also in more difficult times. We will only be able to achieve the development into a sustainable textile industry together.”
