fristads 1 - Fristads launches first circular productS – For the first time, the Swedish workwear manufacturer, Fristads, has produced a sweatshirt that is partly made out of discarded Fristads garments. The reusage of fibres from old clothes for the production of new garments not only reduces the amount of waste, but also the need for new material. “We have been working on reducing the environmental impact of our production for years, but we also recognise the need for innovative recycling solutions when clothes are no longer worn. The offer of circular products in our collection is an important milestone on the way to becoming a more sustainable manufacturer and ensures that we retain our leading position in the workwear industry when it comes down to sustainability,” commented Anne Nilsson, Director for Marketing and Sustainability at Fristads.

The first circular product of the company that is based in Borås, Sweden, is a sweatshirt, that is made out of 15% of recycled fibres that are made from disused Fristads clothes that are collected. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for textiles underlines how much the environmental impact is reduced by using existing fibres to produce new fibres. “The share of recycled fibres in the finished product was carefully selected to ensure our high quality. Our aim is to increase the share of recycled fibres over the course of time, whilst we further develop our recycling solution,” stated Lisa Rosengren, Director of the R&D Raw Material Department at Fristads.
