D – Last year, the writing instrument specialist, uma, was certified according to the requirements of the quality management norm ISO 9001:2015 and according to the environmental management norm DIN ISO 14001:2015. This means the family business is taking a further step in the direction towards climate protection.
With its approx. 250 employees, according to own accounts, uma Schreibgeräte Ullmann GmbH , is one of the leading manufacturers of promotional pens worldwide and above all distinguishes itself through its use of alternative, sustainable raw materials. The family company already decided to switch the entire production over to a climate neutral process in 2019. Since the start of 2023, a large-surface photovoltaic system was installed on uma’s three factory buildings. Then, in mid-2023 the company achieved the certification in compliance with the requirements of the quality and environmental management norm. “The ISO certification further underlines our continuous strive for quality and our efforts for environmentally-friendly working and conduct,” uma’s Managing Director, Alexander Ullmann, stated. He added that regular audits were carried out to ensure that the goals set are fulfilled or whether they have to be redefined, where necessary. He reported that product development at uma always aims to reduce the burden on the environment and seek sustainable solutions.
As an innovation leader for eco-friendly and sustainable writing instruments, uma was recently also distinguished with the German Design Award in the category “Excellent Product Design – Eco Design” and with the TOP 100 Seal.
