D – In the scope of the TOP 100 competition, the writing instrument manufacturer, uma, convinced as a think tank and was awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2024. Only especially innovative medium-sized companies win this award. Tribute will be paid to uma personally for this performance during an award ceremony on June 28, 2024.
Uma’s Managing Directors Jochen, Peter and Alexander Ullmann (f.t.l.) were delighted to be distinguished as a Top 100 company.
Compamedia has been conferring the seal to medium-sized companies for outstanding innovative work since 1993. The scientific selection process falls under the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team from the Vienna University of Economics. All of the participants are assessed on the basis of 100 innovation indicators from five categories: Innovation-friendly top management, climate of innovation, innovative processes and organisation, external involvement or open innovation as well as successful innovations.
The family business with 170 employees at its head office in Fischerbach has already received the Top Innovator Award three times. The company has above all established itself in the writing instrument sector through the implementation of alternative, sustainable raw materials and has set trends in the process. “We always lend the uma quality refill a new, stylishly appropriate look and are versed at presenting the customer’s advertising message in the right light,” explained Alexander Ullmann, uma’s Managing Director. “Even if it is only a writing instrument, we never tire of making sure we are one step ahead of the market by implementing new materials and new production processes,” added Jochen Ullmann, co-Managing Director at uma.
In this way, according to own accounts, the company developed the first and currently still only writing instrument series made from recycled PET bottles that is completely produced in Europe following a climate neutral process. “We have been a climate neutral company since 2019 and are also committed to developing new sustainable models. We are very proud as a family business in the third generation to have been awarded the TOP 100 Seal for the third time after 2019 and 2022. It confirms our innovative and future-oriented alignment,” affirmed the third uma Managing Director, Peter Ullmann, Alexander and Jochen Ullmann’s father.
