According to Schneider, 100 explosions were necessary and over 1,000 lorry loads of stones were carried away to make room for the new building.
D – The long-planned, most expensive individual investment for buildings was finalised at Schneider Schreibgeräte in 2022: First of all, a huge rock had to be blown away to create enough space for the new building. The company opted for a modern, multi-storey building to reduce the land sealed down to a minimum. The old, poorly insulated buildings in need of renovation that were previously located on the piece of land were initially pulled down. According to own accounts, Schneider will gain 30% production space through the new small parts warehouse. It primarily serves to store and supply pre-fabricated semi-finished products and components such as tips, die-cast parts and procured items for the individual assembly departments of the writing instrument production. Furthermore, the aim behind the warehouse is to improve the internal processes and to increase both the efficiency and productivity.
The new building will be 40 m in length, 20 m in width and 27.5 m high. It contains four transport aisles for fully-automated conveyors to the high-racks and up to 65,000 tote locations. Each individual container is fully-automated and driven to and from the assembly departments across the four storeys using self-propelled, electric retrieval units and conveyor belts. The percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere of the high-rack warehouse is reduced from a volume percentage of 20.9 down to 13.7 percent by adding nitrogen. It is not possible for raw materials like wood, plastic and cardboard to burn in this atmosphere, because there is not enough oxygen. Due to the low oxygen content, only people who have had a medical check-up and the appropriate training are allowed to enter the building.
The commissioning of the new small parts warehouse is planned for the autumn of 2023. As such, Schneider is according to own accounts further pushing its dynamic development and strategic investments and expects to achieve further growth in turnover in future years.
