D – The name koziol has stood for happiness and design since 1927. The products of the family business impress people all over the globe through to this very day. In November 2022 the design melting pot is celebrating its 95th anniversary and is commemorating the occasion with a brand relaunch. With immediate effect, koziol is calling itself “the sustainability brand”.

Since its foundation, the company has been exclusively manufacturing in Germany, which guarantees resource-saving and environmentally-friendly production. Over the past two years, the design specialists have according to own accounts been making huge efforts and considerable investments in making the theme sustainability much more tangible in the current collection. Among others, koziol has been climate neutral since 2021. 70% of the CO2 emissions are saved through own measures, 30% is compensated for in the scope of a reforestation project on the island of Rügen. Furthermore, the design professionals have switched almost the entire collection over to a biocircular, so-called koziol organic material. This new plastic is obtained from waste vegetable oils that arise in the gastronomy industry. Wooden fibres from the Swedish paper production that stem from FSC-certified cultivation are also added to the material. According to koziol, for the first time a material has thus been created which is made of regrowing resources and which is at the same time approved for coming into contact with foodstuffs. Last, but not least the family business has extended its product range in the jubilee year to include several reusable solutions for the everyday routine.

The history of koziol began in the bedroom: On November 27, 1927, the just 19-year-old Bernhard Koziol registered his business as an ivory carver and set up his first workplace in his bedroom. He made chains, brooches and bracelets in his workshop. Bernhard Koziol was soon able to employ workers and move into new premises. At the beginning of the 1930s he began to produce jewellery out of thermoplastic material. Stephan Koziol, the youngest son of the company founder joined the company in 1979 and revamped the line-up. Under his direction, koziol developed its own, unique design language. “Basically, we think like a start-up. That can fall back on 95 years of experience, of course,” stated the Managing Director of koziol, Stephan Koziol.

Koziol is betting on reusable solutions with its lunchbox set Candy Ready and the cutlery set Klikk Pocket.

The third generation has since also joined the firm: Daniel Koziol is also working on the development of the brand and is continuing on the tradition of the family business. “We highly appreciate every person, who contributes towards our success and are grateful for our entire team, which comprises of the best engineers and technicians, designers from all over the globe and dedicated employees,” commented Daniel Koziol, who is also a Managing Director of the company. “Our aim is to inspire with our contemporary design and provide an outlook on a future with responsible production, ethical behaviour, circular concepts and organic aesthetics.”
