CN – After ten days, this year’s spring edition of the Canton Fair came to an end on April 24, 2022. The show exclusively took place online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the motto “Canton Fair Global Share”, the website for the 131st edition of the event was quickly transformed into a virtual marketplace. As usual, the import/export trade fair covered numerous product groups – from machines and building materials, to electronic, household and health items, through to consumer goods and gifts of all kinds.
According to the official figures, 25,5000 exhibitors presented their companies, products and brands using texts, photos and videos as well as 3D and VR formats. Furthermore, 85,300 live streams were broadcast and over 3.05 million products uploaded, 951,500 of which celebrated their debut. 2,398 exhibitors designed virtual exhibition stands especially for their online presence. 31,200 visits were registered at the stands by the organisers. Overall, the Canton Fair team recorded over 10.09 million visitors from all over the globe with 33.9 million website hits in total. According to own accounts, a new record was set with 536,000 foreign buyers from 228 countries and regions. The highest number of foreign users logged in from India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Australia, South Africa, Japan and Singapore.
Numerous digital matchmaking activities, which were tailor-made to suit specific markets, industries and customers, contributed towards intensifying the exchange between the buyers and the exhibitors. Xu Bing, spokesman of the Canton Fair and Vice General Director of the Chinese Foreign Centre of the Chamber of Commerce, particularly accentuated the importance of the trade fair as a trading bridge. He explained that the Canton Fair connects China with the international markets and thus contributes towards joint development.
