D – The family company, uma, convinced the jury in the category Excellent Product Design – Eco Design with the uma Recycled PET Pen Pro ocean and thus walked off with a German Design Award 2024. The writing instrument series that is completely produced in Europe, which is furthermore 100% climate neutral, was designed in cooperation with Plastic Bank. The non-profit making initiative collects plastic waste near coasts and in river estuaries, which was either washed out to sea or left behind on the beaches. Since the members of the collecting community are remunerated, this also gives them a chance to improve their situation in life. Hence, the writing instrument not only makes a contribution towards climate protection, it also follows the basic principle of social sustainability.
