CHN – The 136th Canton Fair in Guangzhou, South China, which is officially also known as the China Import and Export Fair, came to a successful close. According to own accounts, the event that was staged from October 15 – November 4, 2024, registered a record number of foreign buyers.
Up until November 3, in total 253,000 buyers from 214 countries and regions had been counted, which corresponds to a 2.8% increase compared to the last fair in the spring. The attendance figure exceeded the 250,000 mark for the first time ever. The share of buyers from countries of the Chinese “Belt and Road Initiative”, the so-called “New Silk Road”, was over 60% and totalled 165,000 (+3.7%). The number of buyers from Europe and North America rose up to 54,000 (+8.2%), 22,000 of whom (+22.5%) came from the EU.
Overall, 146 industry and trade organisations sent delegations to the trade fair (+18.5%). At 308, the number of leading, multinational procurement companies that attended the fair exceeded the 300 mark for the first time. Totalling 24.95 billion USD (+1%), the volume of the intended orders also increased. The turnover of the “Belt and Road” countries accounts for more than half of the overall turnover.
The 137th Canton Fair is scheduled to take place in Guangzhou from April 15 – May 5, 2025.
