UK – The London-based textile manufacturer, Mantis World, has placed three videos online, which show their production process from the cotton field through to the finished garment. In times when it becomes increasingly difficult to differentiate between genuine commitment for sustainability and greenwashing, the company would like to document what ecological and socially responsible production means.
In the clips, Prama Bhardwaj, CEO and founder of Mantis World, guides the viewer through the supply chain of her company in Tanzania. Cotton farmers talk about the benefits of organic farming for their soils, their incomes, and their communities. One gains an insight into a factory where all of the production steps – from the spinning and weaving through to the sewing – are vertically integrated.
“Transparency is the tool with which we counter greenwashing,” explained Bhardwaj. “By putting the farmers, the fields, the factory in front of the camera, we show exactly what Mantis and Babybugz mean when we talk about ethical and socially responsible purchasing as well as the benefits of organic cotton and regenerative farming.”
The videos show the entire supply chain from the cotton harvest through to the finished garment.
Mantis World is a pioneer in the production of organic clothing and is well-known for a number of sustainable innovations within the industry. Since data and certifications often remain abstract, the company hopes to convey its sustainability concepts more vividly and more tangibly with the aid of the new videos. The aim is to underline which positive impact buying decisions can have on the environment and on people’s living conditions.
