UK – The new print-on-demand platform Merchr has started production in a factory in the metropolitan region of Greater Manchester, after the British company from Middleton received 350,000 Pounds (approx. 400,000 Euros) in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round. Merchr enables individual persons and groups to create own merchandise collections without holding warehouse stocks or having to take care of the logistics of the production, imprinting process and dispatch. They can set up a free online shop via the Merchr hub, create their individual product collections and upload them.
The latest funding round enables the founders to further develop the technology, invest in equipment and hire more employees in order to launch the offer on the market. Merchr was founded by an experienced team, which is supported by Martin Varley, a well-known executive in the individualised products sector. The co-founders, Nora Yassin, Director of Partnerships, and Jack Fox, Director of the Operating Business, have recruited a team of twelve including front-end developers as well as production, marketing and administration employees.
As soon as an order is placed, the software of Merchr delivers items ready for printing directly to the factory in Middleton, which is equipped with cutting edge machinery for digital printing, direct-to-garment, direct-to-film and laser engraving. The products are dispatched within 24 hours.
According to the co-founder, Nora Yassin, Merchr is closing a gap with this offer, namely making it easy for individual persons, groups and organisations to sell their merchandising without keeping warehouse stocks. “Many of them cannot afford to buy products in bulk, but Merchr makes selling merchandise accessible for everyone on a print-on-demand basis,” explained Yassin. She added, “Over the last few years, selling online has become more straightforward and reachable for most store owners. However, very few people have the resources to also be a graphic designer, product creator, merchandiser and technology developer and that is where our platform and creativity leans in.”
