According to own accounts, the in total 35 items the collection comprises of are the first garments on the German market, whose supply chain is certified according to the Fairtrade textile standard. “We not only place great value on quality for the production of our collections, but also on responsible production processes, in other words on basic ecological principles and fair wages,” Jens Bräunig, Direktor B2C at VfB Stuttgart, explained.

“We are striving to bring about a structural change in the field of Asiatic textile production and create the basic pre-requisites so that people not only survive on their wages, but so that they can live well on them and are in a position to invest in their own health care or the education of their children,” Mathias Diestelmann, CEO of Brands Fashion, stated. The company has been asserting itself for the development of fair textile production pursuant to the Fairtrade textile standard since 2016. “It has taken five years to implement this strong standard across the entire supply chain. No other standard is as demanding,” said Dieter Overath, Chairman of Fairtrade Germany.

The Fairtrade textile standard aims to improve the working conditions throughout the entire textile industry. As the only standard on the market, it stipulates a timeframe of six years for achieving the living wages. In order to be allowed to label products with the textile seal, the entire supply chain has to be certified – from the ginning plants and the spinning mills and the fabric production, through to the dyeing factories and the packing companies. The cotton used is grown by Fairtrade producers and certified and traded in accordance with the Fairtrade cotton standard.
