D – It was time once again from August 20-24, 2019: Boasting around 373.000 visitors (2018: approx. 370,000 visitors), the largest event of the gaming industry in the world, the gamescom, opened its doors in Cologne to gamers, trade visitors and merchandising fans. Around 1,150 exhibitors from more than 50 countries presented their products and services under the motto “Together we are games” at the fair grounds of Koelnmesse on exhibition space spanning 218,000 m² (+8% compared to 2018). The trade fair visitors were able to enjoy several premieres this year: the gamescom indie village, the event arena as well as the new digital offer, gamescom now.

Social Media campaigns, cosplay and eSports events or small information stands – the gamers were able to take an interactive part at many different points and at the same time pick up coveted goodies and give-aways. The eager audience gladly collected among other things branded chocolate, USB sticks, lighters, clap sticks or lanyards in the course of numerous events.

The portable stool proved to be particularly useful: Vodafone, Samsung and Wargaming.net for instance handed out the cardboard stool to gamers to make the waiting times at their gaming stands more comfortable. Those, who got tired in spite of the stool, could purchase a cushion at gamescom’s own merchandising stand, which bore the striking notice “Eat. Sleep. Game. Repeat.” The wide-ranging in-house merchandising offer was rounded off by two further exhibition halls comprising of the stands of around 100 exhibitors. Here, among others T-shirts, characters, cuddly toys, wigs, sweets, caps and board games let the fans’ hearts beat significantly faster.

The next edition of gamescom is scheduled to take place in the cathedral city again from August 25-29, 2020.
