D – The ISM – the leading global trade fair for sweets and snacks – came to a close on January 30, 2019 with a good result: Over 38,000 trade visitors from more than 140 countries (2018: 37,500 trade visitors from 144 countries) experienced a wide range of novelties and trends in the exhibition halls of Koelnmesse in Cologne as well as an attractive event programme. With a foreign share of over 70%, the 49th edition of the International Sweets & Biscuits Fair also experienced a positive trend in the development of international trade visitors.

1,661 suppliers from 76 countries – and thus roughly around the same amount as in the previous year albeit with a slight increase in the level of internationality – presented a comprehensive spectrum of products and used the trade fair as a platform for presenting their novelties.

The focus of this year’s ISM was on custom-fit products for individual consumer needs – in addition to vegetarian and vegan as well as gluten and lactose-free offers, products containing vegetable-based proteins, natural ingredients and sustainably grown raw materials were among the most important trends. Numerous sugar-free or sugar-reduced as well as fat and salt-reduced sweets and snacks were exhibited at the trade show.

The ProSweets Cologne was also held parallel to the ISM again in 2019. According to the official figures, over 21,000 visitors attended the International Supplier Trade Fair for the Sweets and Snacks Industry – which corresponded to a 5% increase compared to 2018. In total, 343 suppliers from 34 countries presented new solutions and further developments for recipes as well as for the production and packaging of sweets and snacks.

The next ISM, which will be the 50th edition, is scheduled to take place from February 2-5, 2020, once again parallel to the ProSweets Cologne.
