CN – The 25th edition of the Mega Show was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from October 20-23 and from October 27-29, 2016. The trade fair that is organised by Comasia and the Mega Expo (Hong Kong) Limited is according to own accounts “the largest and most important sourcing trade exhibitions every October for gifts, premiums, housewares, kitchen & dining, lifestyle products, toys & games and stationery in the Asia-Pacific region”. The first phase of the Mega Show, in the scope of which the Asian Gifts & Premiums Show is staged, is traditionally the more relevant of the two phases for the promotional products players.
According to the official figures, in total, 4,161 suppliers from 26 countries presented their products and services at 5,365 stands. As already in the previous year, the exhibition areas were divided up separately and colour coordinated to make it as easy as possible for the international buyers to find their way around the expansive exhibition grounds. Phase 1 was divided up into the sections Gifts & Premiums, Giftwrap & Packaging, Festive, Christmas & Seasonal, Housewares & Home Decor, Kitchen & Dining, Glassware Trends, Toys & Games as well as Baby & Nursery. After its premiere last year, there was once again a Design Studio Hall where current design trends were presented. The second phase encompassed the four sections Giftware & Fashion Accessories, Stationery, Housewares & Home Textiles as well as Sanitary & Bathroom Accessories. The product trends in the promotion area included once again electronic and digital gadgets as well as “green” products – corresponding labelling on the stands made the latter identifiable as such.
With 40,926 buyers from 128 countries and regions who attended the shows over the seven days, this year’s Mega Show saw a decrease in attendance compared to 2015 (over 52,400 visitors). According to the organisers, this was a result of the show closure on October 21 due to typhoon activity in the territory. However, despite the decline in visitor figures, brisk business and a quality level of the international audience were reported, the organisers said.
Dates for 2017 have been announced with Mega Show Part 1 opening from October 20-23 and Part 2 following from October 27-29. A report will follow in eppi magazine, No. 114 (November 30, 2016).
