D – This year’s edition of gamescom – the world’s largest trade fair for computer and video games – had achieved a record result when it closed its doors in Cologne on August 9. 345,000 visitors (2014: 335,000) from 96 countries, including 33,200 trade visitors (2014: 31,500), dived into the world of digital games from August 5-9, and inspected the new line-ups of the 806 exhibitors (2014: 703). Under this year’s motto “Next Level of Entertainment”, there were hundreds of novelties to discover and test: In addition to new games for consoles, PCs and mobile platforms, the interest particularly focused on new developments from the virtual reality area and Esports events.


Due to the increasing significance of computer and video games and the related demand for fan items, the fan shop area had its own hall for the first time this year. In hall 5.1, on exhibition space spanning around 12,000 m², the suppliers of merchandising products presented a comprehensive spectrum of fan items, ranging from wigs, costumes and contact lenses to T-shirts, cups, caps, beanies and cuddly toys, through to limited characters. The “gamescom Tabletop” area was also accommodated in the Hall for the first time, where the fans of collecting cards and board games were given the opportunity to get to know new games and exchange their experiences.
