CN – The Mega Show Part I took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from October 20-23, 2014. According to the official figures, more than 3,400 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions presented their products and services at over 4,600 stands (previous year: 3,514 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions), including also exhibitors from European nations, i.e. Belgium, Germany, France, Ireland, Great Britain and the Netherlands.
This year’s 23rd edition of the Hong Kong International Toys and Gifts Show and the 21st edition of the Asian Gifts Premium and Household Products Show were united under the umbrella of the Mega Show Part I. The trade fair that is divided up into eight segments occupied Halls 1, 3 and 5 as well as the Convention Hall, Grand Hall and Grand Foyer. The official attendance figure was not available at the time of going to press, last year 43,282 trade visitors from 124 countries and regions attended the event.
The protests for more democracy didn’t really directly influence this year’s event. However, by all accounts hotel rooms had been cancelled at short notice because some people feared that the protests could escalate. This wasn’t actually confirmed by independent sources, but it is certainly very plausible. The already critical traffic situation in Hong Kong was further intensified because of the tram blockades.
