D – The 51. PSI Show was staged from January 9-11, 2013 in Halls 9 to 13 of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. 963 exhibitors (previous year: 993) once again demonstrated the diversity of haptic advertising with professional stand presentations. Whereas the PSI was able to boast approx. 200 suppliers as first-time exhibitors, some of the big names among the suppliers, who had booked vast areas of exhibition space in the past, were missing. The organisers were only partly able to compensate for this, which meant that there were several empty spaces in the halls of the show. Thus, the PSI is planning to revise the layout of the show for 2014: The Hall 13 concept with its inventor stands and the novelty show “The Wall” will be completely integrated into Hall 12. Hall 13 will not be occupied in 2014 with the aim of providing a more compact overall appearance.
In terms of visitors the organisers experienced a significant decline in numbers: The official figure of 13,772 visitors (previous year: 16,167) indicates a 15% drop compared to last year and it was the poorest result in ten years. The organisers, but also the exhibitors, mainly attributed the decline in visitors to the weak economic situation in several (Southern) European markets, which is in the meantime also being felt in Central and Western Europe. The international share of visitors was 57.6%, which was indeed higher than last year. Growth was particularly recorded from the USA and the Middle East.
In spite of the lack in passing visitors, many exhibitors were satisfied with their trade show outcome. The visitors praised the excellent organisation and the quality of the products offered, did however criticize the lack of “real” novelties.
A detailed report on the show will follow in the next edition of eppi magazine No. 91 (February 13, 2013).
