D – Hakro has signed a partnership agreement with the “Cotton made in Africa“ (CmiA) initiative and will purchase CmiA-certified cotton in future. The certified cotton is made without genetically modified seeds, dangerous pesticides and artificial irrigation and aims to improve the working and living conditions of hundreds of thousands of small cotton farmers. “The standard takes both social and ecological aspects into account. And our participation can contribute towards stabilising the cotton sector in Africa as well as improving the living and working conditions in the cultivation countries,” stated Carmen Kroll, managing partner of Hakro.
After the recently launched organic collection made of organic cotton, “Cotton made in Africa” is a further measure of the medium-sized supplier of corporate fashion, work, leisure and sports clothing to further increase the share of sustainably produced natural fibres. The company has the CmiA cotton produced by an independent production partner from Turkey, which makes T-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts and sweat jackets for Hakro. The manufacturer is subject to the regulations of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI).
