D – After five exhibition days gamescom closed its doors on August 21, 2016 after reaching an attendance figure of 345,000 visitors and thus meeting the record result of the previous year. 877 companies from 54 countries exhibited in Cologne at the world’s largest trade fair for computer and video games. The gaming event achieved a new record in terms of both the number of exhibiting companies and at 68% the share of foreign exhibitors (2015: 65%).
Under this year’s key theme “Heroes in New Dimensions“, the visitors were able to discover the latest hardware, hundreds of game premieres on exhibition space spanning 193,000 sqm – from consoles and PCs, to online games, through to mobile games – as well as current trends such as virtual reality and eSports. The business area occupied Halls 2, 3 and 4, the entertainment area was located in Halls 5 to 10. After its successful premiere last year, the fan shop arena was once again accommodated in Hall 5.2. Here the gaming fans could purchase merchandising items from over 75 suppliers. Particularly popular: T-shirts, collecting figures, cuddly toys and cosplayer items for true-to-detail costumes.
gamescom was rounded off by a first-class congress programme, various supporting events on the fair grounds as well as music, streetfood, gaming and entertainment events at several locations in Cologne.
