D/S – The Ravensburger Group has purchased the Swedish toy manufacturer, Brio, from the Swedish investor, Proventus. Brio is predominantly famous for its high-quality wooden trains and is one of the most prestigious brands on the toy market. Karsten Schmidt, Chairman of Ravensburger: “The acquisition of Brio is part of our strategy to push growth abroad and expand beyond the games market into the toy branch.”
Brio will continue doing business as an autonomous subsidiary within the Ravensburger Group under the direction of the present management team at the company’s headquarters in Sweden. The Swedish board game market leader, Alga, which also belongs to Brio, is also part of the take-over. The seller, Proventus, was the main owner of Brio for over ten years and enabled the company to reinforce its brand and achieve profitable growth in the wooden toys industry.
